Integration of the dairy sector in Costa Rica
According to the National Chamber of Milk Producers , the Costa Rican dairy sector is made up of nearly 26,000 farms and 2,500 formal companies, positively impacting some 200,000 families in the country.
IMPORTANCE OF THE DAIRY INDUSTRY IN COSTA RICA:
At the national level, it is estimated that the dairy industry contributes close to 1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with a production of 1,148 million liters of milk per year and exports of $153 million.
Until 2021, the national herd was made up of 253,144 animals on specialized milk farms and 353,868 animals on dual-purpose farms.
