At Avolta Energy, we are interested in supporting community microgrid projects of various sizes. In our experience, community microgrids (even small scale) are the point at which the economics of microgrids start to make real financial sense
The advantages of large-scale microgrids are:
- Provide efficient, low-cost and clean energy
- Improve the operation and stability of your power supply
- Increased resiliency and reliability
- Avoid expensive or complex utility fees
- Avoid losses and the carbon footprint produced by transporting energy over long distances
- Support shelter sites in regional crises and assist first responders with reliable power
In much of Central America, the regulatory framework around power delivery lags technology. Therefore, to make a practical microgrid on a large scale requires that the community be disconnected from the national electricity grid and be totally self-sufficient

Groups of 75 or more with large consumption
Groups of 75 or more households with large energy consumption, such as the use of air conditioning 24 hours a day and pool pumps.
Groups of households associated with businesses
Groups of homes and businesses that may be associated with one or more large anchor principles such as an airport, a world-class hotel, or several large manufacturing facilities.
Fuel Dependent Small Groups
Smaller groups of hotels, businesses or homeowners already heavily dependent on Diesel or gas generators, eg island communities.
